The primary drawback of fifth wheels is that they can only be towed by a limited range of towing vehicles. An SUV can’t be used with a fifth wheel, for example; you have to have a half-ton or larger truck with a bed in the back for the coupling unit that must be installed. The hitch of your fifth wheel comes up and over the rear of the truck bed to latch into the coupling anchor.
