Every year we battle some pesky critters who try to bunk in your RV. Pulling into the campground you find there are more rodents than ever before! Mice can cause a lot of damage to your RV in addition to damaging things we keep in there. One of the greatest damages with mice is when they chew their way through your wiring and plumbing! If these issues are left too long or if the damaged component is used it can lead to more catastrophic (and pricey) repairs. Luckily, there’s a few things you can do! With the mouse shield product, or using natural mouse deterrents and barriers!

Mouse Shield:

Mouse shield is also a great option that’s available here at McGovern’s RV! With a durable undercoating on the most vulnerable place on your trailer (underneath) as well as a natural rodent repellent! This undercoating is a durable and permanent non-greasy coating with abrasion resistance to keep the mice out even if your home-on-wheels has been on the road a while.

Mouse shield will fill in the most common paths for mice to enter with a rubber-based vulcanized coating so you don’t have to search and use spray foam yourself! This coating has a rodent-repelling smell as well as taste to deter anything looking to chew it’s way through.

Of course, no matter what you do there’s always a chance a mouse will find it’s way through. Be it a door left open, a cracked window, a broken screen or vents – but mouse shield from McGovern’s RV also offers a “Catch, clean, disinfect and re-apply” policy. That way if you find a mouse in your RV after, you can bring it to McGovern’s and our team will deal with all of it for you!

Mice Deterrents:

Peppermint oil serves two functions – leaving a pleasurable smell for you and your family while also deterring rodents. You can use peppermint oil on linens or soak cotton balls and place them around your camper to repel any scurrying campers.

Mice also aren’t huge fans of lavender, clove, cedarwood or cinnamon – all of which can create a nice smell throughout your RV! Many people also recommend items like Irish Spring bar soap or dryer sheets.

Mice Barriers

You can also use spray foam to create a barrier for any mouse entry points! First, locate potential entryways for mice – and remember that with their collapsible spines they can fit through very tiny crevices! Spray the foam around, let it expand to dry and the hardened product will block any unwanted guests.

You can also use steel wool to block any openings that you may want to use in the future and don’t want to permanently seal off. Mice don’t love to chew through the metal and they are more likely to leave your RV in search of an easier opening. You can even double up with on of the other deterrents previously mentioned!

Most importantly remember to clear out any food in your RV if you’re not using it for a while – or put your non-perishable food in mouse-proof containers!

There are tons of ways to keep mice out – eliminate a food source, prevent entry and use repellents to keep your RV a mouse-free place and stop any rodent-related damage!
